RAFTING ON THE SOČA | BOVEC IS SKIING

BOVEC SKI: RAFTING ON THE SOČA

Thursday, 4/7/2019 - Bovec, Slovenia

After yesterday's climb to Matajur, today we set off on a slightly more relaxed, but no less important adventure. We gathered as many as 15 children, the youngest is barely 3, and the oldest are actually little apprentices for future guides on this truly beautiful river!

We started the trip at the entry point Srpenica I, exactly halfway between Žaga and Srpenica. After the most difficult part, we quickly sat down in both rafts, where Erik and Jernej instructed us in detail about the difficulty of the trip. We already learned the first rowing techniques last year, but this year we were expecting a slightly higher water level in the Soča River, so our composure was at its peak this time as well.

Before the descent, we cooled down in the fresh Soča, and then went on the waves. We split into two boats, so Erik and Jernej didn't have a very hard job. :)
One last picture by our photographer (Bojan) and we're off.

After the initial warm-up, there was a short break, where we made a real slide on the penguin rock. The oldest of us jumped, ran and swam in the river Soča, which was not cold at all with protective equipment, and even the youngest jumped from the rock into the water. All in all, a really fun break.

Well, then it really started. Last additional information from Erik and Jerne, and we descended from Kreda towards Trnovo. Here it went faster, which also shook quite a bit, but it was just right that we went through all the rapids without any problems. Our youngest had a smile on his face, which is the only thing that counts! Before the end, we stopped one more time, at a small stream, where we could see how slippery our rocks were.

Bojan was already waiting around the bend, and he was chasing us again with the camera.

One last swim and we were at the end!

We are glad that so many children took part in this trip, because we believe that the future of tourism on the Soča River rests on the local knowledge and experience related to this beautiful valley. It is for this reason that the "BOVEC SMUCA" project is more important to us from week to week, as we see that this future is far from lost!
